The 1st Caspian International Transport and Logistic Forum in Baku is quite well-timed. Azerbaijan's role in the current geopolitical situation has become increasingly important, as cargo flows have been rerouted from conventional paths to the one that runs through the Caspian Sea.
This is caused by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine on the one side and a greater tendency towards new competitive routes on the other.
TRACECA member-countries, Azerbaijan among them, are working to create favorable cargo transit conditions.
Another important topic to be discussed in Baku is improving the efficiency of multimodal transportation, when cargo is carried using different means of transport. This very issue requires cohesiveness and harmonization of laws and standards, so the forum in Baku serves as a great platform to discuss all issues arising in this respect.
TRACECA is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and we want to highlight the important role Azerbaijan plays in this corridor.
Azerbaijan is now keen to develop a new transportation branch route via Karabakh, and we can but welcome this initiative!
